I've met many people in my life who advocate fear as a motivator. I understand where they're coming from, in their eyes they can only keep pushing themselves to do the best they can, if they have impending doom chasing right behind them. Another aspect that they might not acknowledge but may be rooted in the back of their minds, is the belief that fear keeps us safe from the shock of impending doom hitting us. A person who is fearful of the worst, may feel like they are prepared for the worst.
If you maintain a pessimistic outlook on life, whenever you're proved right you'll feel a sense of strange relief as you give acknowledgement to how well you've adjusted to it because you were ready for it to come. While many of you have heard about the Law of Attraction from bastardized versions of it in books like 'The Secret' (it oversimplifies the Law of Attraction), the truth is, yes our thoughts do bring about our present situation but those thoughts aren't just emerging from the ether.
There are reasons to why we think the way we do, and it stems from our prior conditioning. Depending on the era of time we were born in, the culture that was prevalent in the society we were born into, and how our families moulded according to or against that environment, and taking into account how we react to this conditioning (quite often people sway from one extreme to the other, even in their lifespan) in subconscious and conscious ways, we form certain belief systems and ideologies. As I've mentioned before, many of us compartmentalize our reactions and traumas from early childhood (and as early on as our prenatal time in the womb) and this too forms the general trend in our perception of reality and our reaction to this.
Fear becomes a learned response that makes people feel oddly secure and as they build up armour to protect themselves against it, they don't realize that the very energy that they are sustaining themselves in is causing to bring about the fulfillment of those fears. Rather than protect them from the shock, they generate a certain frequency of energy that attracts the kinds of experiences that further justify the original fear. This is what I was referring to before- the real Law of Attraction adheres to the current state of energy you are sustaining.
Some of you intellectually agree with the idea of all matter in the universe being energy, yet many have only experienced this as an idea. Others may still be entirely skeptical about it, which is absolutely their right to choose.
Decisions should be made, however, with an open but inquisitive mind capable of critical thinking. Once approached from that viewpoint, if you still find that it doesn't hold up to par with your experience, that is entirely your prerogative. However, for those who are sensitive to energy, or open to the concept or believe in it as theory- every emotion that we feel or refuse to feel carries an energetic charge, the same goes for our thoughts. This energy gets stored in your energetic and physical body.
Human beings are fascinating, multi dimensional and complex, to see yourself as single layered is limiting yourself and putting yourself in a box. With the example of stress- if you are someone who is highly stressed out all the time but is determined to ignore it and shelve it aside, find it causing chronic issues such as migraines, diabetes, skin conditions, anxiety and so much more. Added to the roster of physical health problems come the emotional neuroses and depression and so on. Treating the symptoms doesn't mean that the person is no longer stressed out. The energy of the stress is causing damage to the energetic body, and is stored in different parts of the physical body (shoulders, lower back, stomach, just to name a few), meaning that it will keep expressing itself in varying degrees of symptoms and pain, till it is dealt with or becomes a debilitating issue.
This ties in with what I was saying earlier- what people who believe in us being energy expressing itself as matter conceptually sometimes forget is that current emotional and mental states, decisions, life situations are caused not just by the thoughts you are thinking but the stored energy in your system (which includes the holistic picture of your mental, emotional, physical and spiritual aspects) that needs to be released and dealt with, rather than compartmentalized and put away in storage boxes sealed off with the intention to never see light of day again.
Unless you deal with these issues you are not making decisions for yourself, you are letting your issues define who you are and what your life is all about. We all have fight or flight mechanisms stimulated by our our parasympathetic system, but we can train ourselves to resist that flight system and look at the fight as a challenge rather than a violent showdown where blood and gore are necessary.
Living in fear keeps a person stunted, in the sense that they may be going on with life but they don't do it from a place of empowerment. Empowering oneself means that by dealing with the things that had been stowed away and the new things that come up, you are not afraid of emotions or the situations that life brings but know that with a healthy sense of self you can deal with all that comes your way. If others have been able to do it, why wouldn't you? They weren't born knowing how to handle life as it threw challenge upon challenge their way.
Ideas that are learnt can be unlearnt (not saying it's an easy process but it absolutely can be done) to allow you to experience the universe in a different way, helping you re-learn how to live a more authentic life.
This is the point that love becomes your motivating force- it motivates you to work at doing something you love, being someone you love, and surrounding yourself with people you love. The more people that do this, the less of a hippie ideal it seems.
Many people go to therapy because they want to be able to subsist in their lives- don't be one of those people, don't just subsist. The goal of any therapist, energy practitioner, alternative health care specialist or even doctor worth their salt who genuinely cares about your well being is not to keep you in therapy but to help enable you to help yourself.
Imbibing your system with meds keeps you in a state of dependence, and causes various side effects. It also further entrenches you in that state of fear, terrified of what could happen if you went off the meds.
There are also people in life, that are afraid to resolve their issues because they feel that is the source of their creativity. Creativity isn't caused by how tormented you are inside, though it can be a powerful transmuting force to take that angst and channel it into something productive that is an expression of your feelings.
As you work on these issues and transmute them you realize that tortured feelings aren't all you can use to express your creative genuis- it isn't what is generating the creativity, the creative energy comes from YOU, the inner essence of who you are. It is not dependent on you constantly re-living the traumas you've been through or by holding them to your chest, it is your means of expressing who you are, and how you explore your imagination.
Creativity is the journey you embark on into your imagination. Don't curb your feelings but don't accumulate them in your system to fondle as inspiration. Allow yourself to feel what you feel fully rather than mentalizing the feeling so that it is a purely intellectual process rather than an emotional one, and then let it go, don't hold on to those feelings. As mentioned before, creativity is a fantastic outlet to expressing those feelings, in whatever way you choose to create- it could be dance, or art, or music or poetry or any other means. It means allowing energy to move rather than letting it stagnate within you.
The shift from fear to love (most of us have heard the quote of how all actions are motivated by either love or fear, and this happens to be true on a deeper level that many realize) is not one that happens overnight, and it is not easy, because it means finally dealing with a lifetime of conditioning. Yet, it goes surprisingly fast when you consider that it took an entire lifetime to build and you are destroying the very foundation it stood on to unveil the real you.
This destruction is necessary for the creation of a life built on who you truly are rather than circumstances and conditioning decreed you to be. Making the shift means approaching your life with a new ease of confidence and truly not being in the pursuit of happiness any longer, but rather living in a state of happiness. Doesn't mean bad stuff will never happen, but it definitely means you will have the tools to tackle it head on, and emerge a better, stronger person for it, every time.
A life lived with love as it's premise and foundation is one that walks on an enlightened path. It means you are always walking with a sense of the light that radiates from within you. Activate the radiance within you, live fully as the beautiful being that you are.

WOW, Maya, you are a very talented writer. This was absolutely powerful and enlightening. The way that you wrote it made it much more clear and impacting than anything else I have read about the law of attraction, fear vs love, and the conditioned mind. I hope you plan to publish this stuff! hugs, Lisa
